Theme for Fall 2008: Music of My Favorite State

From Virginia to California, the musical life of our United States is rich and varied. "Music of My Favorite State" is a theme you can personalize. Texas is special to me, so I enjoy playing traditional songs like "The Yellow Rose of Texas" and other pieces about Texas places or by Texas composers. Which state interests you? What kind of music has it produced? Find out more about a state that intrigues you at the library, on the Internet, and by talking with friends and relatives. At the recital on December 6, we will put together a musical map of the United States, sharing the discoveries we've made.

Following the excitement of the Beijing Olympics, we will have a Piano Olympics on November 1 to test playing scales, chords, and arpeggios. Remember the Olympic motto, citius, altius, fortius - swifter, higher, stronger - applies to piano skills, too.
