The flag of the Organization of American States displays the flags of all the member countries in the Western Hemisphere. OAS headquarters are on 17th St. & Constitution Ave. NW in Washington, DC.
In contrast to the European countries we've featured in past years, this fall we will have the opportunity to learn more about the music of our own hemisphere. Working in teams, students may choose music written about the Western United States, beautiful pieces about mountains, waterfalls, and canyons-a sonic, scenic wonderland to explore. Or students may pick music from south of the border-tangos and all sorts of interesting character pieces. Though we'll continue to study Baroque dances, Classical Sonatinas, and Romantic preludes, the music of the Americas will give us all new perspectives.
